Annatar: “If you see laziness in body and spirit relying on each other-” He stopped suddenly, his eyes wide with fear. “Hide in the wardrobe.”
Celebrimbor: “What? Why, who would I hide from in my own rooms?”
Noldorin jewelry

All This Bad Blood as the Noldolante
Dec. 20th, 2018 09:03 pm- "Pompeii" - The fight against Sauron echoing the fight against Morgoth.
- 'And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love,’ the destruction of Formenos and Gondolin and Ost-in-Edhil
- ‘Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all,’ refusing a powerful Ainur’s offer of knowledge and throwing him out the city.
- ‘Does it almost feel like you’ve been here before,’ the High King of the Noldor rides out to fight the Dark Lord
- ‘How am I going to be an optimist about this’ no actions of elves did anything more than buy time last Age.
- "Things We Lost in the Fire" - Fingolfin’s host watching the burning of the ships at Losgar. ‘We were born with nothing / And we sure as hell have nothing now’ but we’re not going to turn back just because it’s hopeless
- "Bad Blood" - Fingon and Maedhros. ‘That those are the days that bind us / Together, forever’ and ‘All this bad blood here / won’t you let it dry.’
- "Overjoyed" - Feanor swearing the Oath and convincing the Noldor to follow him across the sea, taking vengeance rather than grief for Finwe. ‘When you listen to my words / I see them sinking in / Oh, I see them crawling underneath your skin.’
- "These Streets" - Maeglin in Gondolin, the city his mother told him all about, the city where Aredhel and Eol both died. ‘We have stained these walls / with our mistakes and flaws’
- "Weight of Living, Pt. II" The sons of Feanor and the second and third kinslayings. ‘Oh, tell yourself this is how it's going to be’ ‘Now that you are here, suddenly you fear / You've lost control.’ Doriath falls, and Sirion falls the same, and this will keep happening.
- "Icarus" - Feanor, obviously ‘You put up your defenses when you leave / You leave because you're certain / Of who you want to be.’ as well as ‘Icarus is flying / Towards an early grave’
- "Oblivion" - Nienor when Glaurung reveals who she really is. ‘Are you going to age with grace? / Or only to wake and hide your face?’
- "Flaws" - Nerdanel and Feanor. ‘You have always worn your flaws upon your sleeve / And I have always buried them deep beneath the ground.’ Nerdanel, the wise, strong willed but seeking to understand. Feanor, the greatest of the children of Illuvatar, never admitted he had a single flaw.
- "Daniel in the Den" - Finrod leaving on the Quest for the Silmaril, for the title and ‘Felled in the night by the ones you think you love’ re: Curufin and Celegorm leading Nargothrond against him, and 'For every king that died they would crown another' about Orodreth
- "Laura Palmer" - Turin, realizing he’s caused yet another tragedy and going to start a new life under a new name. ‘The night was all you had / You ran into the night from all you had’
- 'If you had your gun / Would you shoot it at the sky? / Why - to see where your bullet would fall / Or would it come down at all?" Is definitely Beleg's death
- "Get Home" - Celegorm and Curufin after being kicked out of Nargothrond ‘To the morning we're cast out but I know I'll land here again / How am I gonna get myself back home?’ Fleeing somewhere that was supposed to be safe for the second time in a decade.
- Also, 'The birds are mocking me / They curse my return' is definitely Celegorm
- "Poet" - Maglor, author of the Noldolante ‘I have written you down now / You will live forever’
- "The Silence" Miriel, fading from exhaustion in Lorien as her husband and son wait for her to get better. ‘Now you've hit a wall and you hit it hard’
- "Haunt (Demo)" - Fingon and Maedhros. ‘I will try to love you / It's not like I'm above you.’ They both fought at Aqualonde, Fingon won’t put that all on Maedhros.
- "Weight of Living, Pt. I" - Sons of Feanor and the Oath and the kinslayings. ‘Your albatross, shoot it down, shoot it down / When you just can't shake the heavy weight of living.’ Forswear the Oath, or argue that you should wait, or maybe you can’t live with yourself after all.
- "Sleepsong" - Elrond and Elros with captor/foster father Maglor, who is at least better than being lost on your own in the wilderness at age six. ‘All you want is someone onto whom you can cling / Your mother warned of strangers and the dangers they may bring.’
- "Durban Skies" - Celeborn showing Galadriel around Menegroth. ‘It’s alive / Now I understand your lives’
- "Laughter Lines" - Finrod and Amarie. He crossed the sea and she stayed in Tirion. They expected defeating Morgoth to only take a few years, and then he’d come back for her. ‘I'll see you in the future when we're older / And we are full of stories to be told.’
Han Solo's old project car
Dec. 12th, 2018 08:28 pmMy dad has a classic car as old as he is - a 1958 Austin Healey Sprite, also called a “Bug Eye”

To give you a scale, the top of the windshield is about 3 1/2 feet high
In factory condition, it was not a fancy car in any way.
It has one side mirror and no central rear view mirror.
Front and rear bumpers were an extra feature, that my dad’s Bug Eye never had.
Same with the radio - there’s a small piece of polished wood where you would expect the radio to be.
There are no door locks.
There are no windows.
There are no exterior door handles - just reach over the side and pull the interior handle.
There is luggage space for maybe one small duffle, as the roof takes up the space behind the passengers.
It has a realistic top speed of around 65 mph, and take about 20-30 seconds to reach that.
It has 43 horse power.
On top of all that, it has run for maybe ten of the last twenty years.
I have never seen the roof put up.
The windshield wipers don’t work.
It has a perfectly circular five inch dent on the left quarter panel, where all the paint has rusted away.
The speedometer is inaccurate - my dad knows what speed he’s going by when he has to switch gears.
To repair it last time, we had to call a flatbed truck. That’s because the ground clearance is five inches - too short to be towed without damaging it.
At the moment, the brakes are stuck - it cannot move from the garage.
Also, British cars of that era are known for leaking oil. I don’t know how true this is in general, but it is definitely true in this case.
Lady Caranthir Morifinwe
Dec. 6th, 2018 08:57 pm- Caranthir is described as angry and quarrelsome. However, she is shown to establish good trade relationships with a wide variety of people. Can you say gendered double standards for behavior?
- Caranthir the dark, with her cousins Aredhel the White Lady of the Noldor, and the radiant Artanis.
- “The seven sons of Feanor” came about due to a translation issue. From Sindarin to Taliska to Haladin, there’s room for a gender neutral plural to become masculine (think of Spanish “hijos”).
- When Haleth is rescued by Caranthir, she greets the elf as “Lord Caranthir.” Haleth expects elven features to be delicate and beautiful, and a suit of plate armor makes distinguishing body types impossible.
- Caranthir: “Lady.”
- Haleth: “Yes, I suppose I am the Lady of my house since my father and brother died last week.”
- Caranthir: “Sorry to hear that but I actually meant I’m female.”
- Haleth and Caranthir might enter into a romantic relationship, but since they can’t have children, it never makes it into history books.
Tolkien went with the most boring outcome possible for Elrond and Elros at the end of the First Age. Consider instead:
- King Elrond of the Sindar and his brother King Elros of the Edain
- King Elrond of the Noldor (if Gil-Galad is Ordoreth’s son, Earendil has a better claim)
- King Elrond of ALL the elves in Middle Earth, Noldor and Sindar
- Triple King Elros of the Sindar, Noldor, and Edain
- Elrond and Elros claiming they have a psychic bond, and therefore they’re both Triple-King
- No one knows what maia-human-elven twins grow up like, so no one can dispute it
- One of them going to Valinor and arguing that he should be king of Tirion instead of Finarfin
- Also trying to get counted as a prince of Aqualonde, because they’re Olwe’s nephews.
- One of them going sailing with their dad Earendil for a few centuries, hanging out in Valinor afterwards, comforting Grandma Melian as she waits for Thingol to be reborn
- Elrond saying “I don’t want to be a Man, but I won’t be an Elf either. I choose to be a Maia, like Melian.”
- I have no idea what happens when there’s suddenly another one of the beings that existed as long as creation, but I bet he shakes things up.
- Elrond becoming herald of Ulmo and herald of Yavanna, then lording it over Eonwe
- Probably results in Elrond fighting Sauron in hand-to-hand combat and winning
- Just checked, and they were allowed to ‘choose freely to which kindred their fates shall be joined.’ No mention made of blood ties.
- I’m saying Dwarf!Elros and Maia!Elrond
- And Elros somehow ends up king of the dwarves, possibly by flaunting his adoptive descent from Feanor, the greatest craftsman in history
