One thing I like about Tumblr was the use of tags as a side channel for commentary I thought might distract from the main body of a post. It could be funny on a serious post, or just a way of capturing related thoughts for later on the topic in a way that didn't get in the face of everyone who wanted to interact with that post. Alternatively on Tumblr, I could put the idea in a reblog.

What do people think of immediately commenting on my own post with what I would put in the Tumblr tags? Is that seen as faking popularity over here?

I think it would be a cool social norm to establish as we resettle over here, at least for those who want to use Dreamwidth more like Tumblr than like a traditional blog.

I think it's brilliant!

I've been here since 2009 and [personal profile] potofsoup was the first time I've seen it officially proposed. But lots of people do use the technique. I know after I post I always have an "and also also!" concept, and it's easier to reply than to edit the post.

Since DW doesn't show any running reblog/like counts, I don't think inflating numbers is A Thing.

FYI: to make the DW account name, type
<user name=ACCOUNT>

If the account is a community, DW automagically shows the correct userhead.
